Emotions and Games

Together with our guest film director Serge Zehnder we explore questions such as: «Are Games a pain-free sphere? How are emotions presented in a game and how do they evoke emotions in a player?». In view of our work on queer theory, we also ask ourselves what feelings are evoked by games that cannot be played or in which the game mechanics do not allow winning. We are also interested in questions of media specificity and media translation, as artists from the fields of film, game and performance, as well as scholars of cultural studies and computer science (AI) are present in this meeting.

Things and Stories

In this meeting we will be talking about things in stories and things that tell stories. Carla Peca from Kein Museum shares her experiences of working with everyday objects and things in literature and film. We will compare the different appearances of things, what role they play, how other characters engage with them and how they change the story. Further we will analyze how the relation of a subject with an everyday objects changes through touch an interaction. What is the agency of the object, and can the subject-object change through the interaction?
